Common Weeds in the Valley

Picture
August 4, 2012

Q: Hey Country Garden Guys.  Love the show and I like the new answer page.  I’m new  to gardening  in California and  I’m  learning a lot but I don’t know what some of the weeds are.  What are the common weeds in the valley?

A:  Thank you for listening.  California and especially the San Joaquin Valley has a large variety of weeds.  If I were to list these weeds, they number in the hundreds and would probably confuse more than help. So I’ll show you some of the more common weeds that we have been asked about on the show.

A great website for weed information and identification is from the University of California in Davis.  The UC Davis IPM website is one the best that I have found. Unlike other websites where you may get incorrect answers, this website is very reliable.  This site covers many landscape problem  pests that are found in California. I refer to this website quite often in my horticulture classes at Bakersfield College.  The address for UC IPM Online is:  http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/

Here are some our listeners most asked about weeds and the answers from experts at UC, Davis. Click on the links below to learn more.
