Dale Edwards, The Sultan of Sod

Dale Edwards, The Sultan of Sod from Old River Sod, brings country living into the city. Listeners to the Country Garden will enjoy Dale's country humor with his expert answers to your gardening questions.
Dale Edwards is a Kern County native, born and raised in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. Growing up on a farm in Mettler, California taught Edwards about raising and cultivating crops. His love for growing eventually turned into his career of today, sod production.
“I grew up tending vegetable gardens for a hobby. After a short stint as a cowboy at age 20, I knew my roots were in gardening and turf,” says Edwards.
Edwards went on to receive his education in Turf Grass Management from Purdue University. He uses that education today at his present job at Old River Sod.
With over 35 years of experience, Edwards travels throughout California consulting and lecturing businesses, landscape professionals and homeowners on the growth and maintenance of lawns. The sod grown by Old River Sod has been installed by school districts, park districts, golf courses, businesses and by many homeowners throughout California.
The Sultan of Sod will bring his vast knowledge about lawns and gardens to the listeners of the Country Garden with the information they want and the country humor they will enjoy.

Lindsay Ono, The Plant Professor

The “Plant Professor,” Lindsay Ono will be teaching the Country Garden listeners about the joys of gardening. He has learned in his years of teaching horticulture how to give the technical answers for the experienced gardeners and still be understood by the beginners.
The son of a nurseryman, Ono a Bakersfield native, has been around plants his entire life. His 35 years of horticultural experience started at Evergreen Nursery, a family business. In addition to being a nurseryman and landscaper, Ono has worked as an agricultural laboratory research technician for the growers of Jackson and Perkins Roses. In 1999, Ono began teaching Environmental Horticulture classes in the Federal Prison system. Today he is an Associate Professor of Environmental Horticulture and Department Chair for Agriculture at Bakersfield College.

In 2007, Ono was awarded the United States Department of Agriculture, Kika De La Garza Educational Fellowship. This fellowship selected professors and university officials from across the nation to participate in a program connecting the many facets of federal government with college education and employment opportunities.
In addition to his teaching duties, Ono is the faculty advisor for the Bakersfield College Agriculture Ambassador Outreach Program. He is a member of the California Agricultural Teachers Association (CATA), CATA Horticulture curriculum committee member and works with the California Statewide Career Pathways Project – Discipline Work Group.
In his community, Ono is the Chairman of Education for the Kern Chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association.
